Happy Dr. Seuss week. There are so many fun activities planned for this week, so I hope everyone enjoys! Here is a list of activities and dress up days:

Tuesday – Wear a fun hat
(Today will also be our Spirit stick sales. Students will be allowed to purchase one Dr. Seuss stick at lunch, and another after school if there are any remaining)
Wednesday – Wear wacky clothes and hair
Thursday – Wear red and blue
Friday – Wear fun or silly socks
(Today will be our read-a-thon. Students can bring a stuffed animal and/or blanket, and we will snuggle up and read for 30 minutes. The snack cart will come around also. Students are only allowed to spend $2)
I have a hard time believing that March is here already. We have a few field trips planned in the next month, and I am very excited. Spring Break will be the first week in April, and it will be here before we know it. Thank you for all that you do!
February is here, and I think we may be on the uphill climb to get warmer weather. Well, I'm crossing my fingers at least! It has been a busy past month, and I want to apologize for not posting the last few weeks. The time really got away from me!
Our Valentine's Day party is next Wednesday, the 14th.. Please remember to have students make a box to bring to school to hold their valentines. It should not be so big that it will not fit on their desk. Also, we have 23 students, so please make sure your child brings valentines for everyone, so that no one feels left out.
Thank you to every one of you for signing up for an appointment for S.E.P. week. I feel like we have set some wonderful goals here at school, and I can not wait to share them with you. Students are doing so great, and I love watching them grow.
Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Have a great week!

Winter is trying to hit full force, and it is cold! Please remember to make sure students bring jackets and/or a coat to school. I wore 2 jackets out to recess duty yesterday, and I was still freezing! We go outside unless the snow or rain is too heavy to do so. This makes for very cold recesses, so have your cute kiddos bundle up! Gloves and beanies are also allowed during recess time.
Please remember to be looking at weekly newsletters. I try to keep everyone updated with the latest info through that, or through emails. If you have not been getting my emails, please let me know so that I can check to make sure I have the correct address.
Please take a look at our wishlist tab to see if you can donate any of the supplies/goodies listed. We are starting to run low on a few things, and I always appreciate your help with donations.
It's that time of the year that students should be almost passing off their word lists through 800, as well as their math facts. Please talk to your child about where they stand, and let's get them passed off.
Once again, thank you for your continued support. You are the greatest! :) Please contact me with any questions or concerns. Remember, no school on Monday!

Just a reminder that our Christmas party will be today from 12:00-1:00. We will be watching a Christmas movie, and eating yummy treats. It will be so much fun! The Orchestra will have their assembly after from 1:10-1:25.

Good afternoon, and Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a blast at the color run, and that you were able to get the color out of all your child's clothes (or even yours)! It was so much fun, and I am so glad we got to be a part of this fundraiser.
As the weather starts getting cooler, please make sure that your child brings a jacket to school. They will be required to go outside until 8:45 when they get to school in the morning. We also go out to recess unless it is pouring rain, or heavy snow. Remember to plan accordingly. It would be a great idea to stash a light jacket inside your child's backpack, just in case! :)
Halloween is right around the corner. If you would like to help at our party, please let me know. You can also contact one of our wonderful room moms. We plan on doing centers, which is always a blast!

Good afternoon. September is half-way through, and we are starting to get into the swing of things. Make sure you look at the upcoming events list so that you do not miss out on anything going on at school. There is tons to look forward to in the upcoming month.
Book orders are due on Wednesday, September 13th. If you are interested in ordering, please make sure you submit your order by 4:00. You can either send money to school, or order online. There are a bunch of great choices for your child! We will be starting classroom volunteers next week. I am really excited about it. We love having parents in the classroom!
Remember to be working on fluency on a nightly basis. Reading and spelling are very important. Word lists will be coming home in the next few days, so please make sure that you have your child read them, and when they are ready to pass them off, sign them and send it back to school. They can come back any day. Homework is due on Friday, and our spelling test is Friday as well. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Thanks, and have a great week!
* September 13 - Book orders due
* September 13 - Watchdog Rootbeer Float Party 6:30-7:30
I can hardly believe September is already here. Boy does time fly when you are having fun! :) School is going great so far, and I hope all your kiddos feel the same. We have such a great class!
T-Shirt update: We have almost 100% of the class that has ordered shirts, and we will be drawing pictures this week. The order should be mailed off by the end of this week. It usually takes about a month to get them, but I'm crossing my fingers we will get them sooner than that. I can't wait to see how they turn out.
Homework: Reading is very important, so please make sure your child is reading 20 minutes a night. Their fluency can definitely count as part of that reading.. Remember to have students answer the comprehension questions, and do their spelling. Fun Friday is too much fun to miss!
I will send home September reading calendars tomorrow. Make sure to write the amount of minutes students are reading each night so that we can keep track of it. Every calendar that gets turned in will earn class money, and a treat (a personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut). Bribery at its finest! :)
Remember, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me! Have a great week, and 3-day weekend.

Hi. My name is Mrs. Coon, and I grew up in Southern California. I moved to Cedar City in 2000, and I love it here! I have been teaching for 16 years, 13 of which were in St. George teaching 4th grade. This is my 3rd year teaching 2nd grade in Iron County. I am so thrilled to be teaching at Fiddlers Canyon Elementary. It is a wonderful school, with even more wonderful students and parents! :)
